Now, ICC World T20 or T20 World cups have also become a major tournament (which Australia are yet to win) and it's obvious to ask the question ~ which team has done the best in biggest tournament of smallest format?
Sri Lanka (at nearly 70% win ratio) and India (65% win ratio) have been the best team of T20 World cups, each winning it once and finishing runner up another time. Note that we're restricting our judgement to teams who've played significant number of T20 world cup matches because some associate nations have good record without playing many matches.
South Africa too are yet to win an ICC tournament but are maintaining good performance report card, as are West Indies who won the 2012 edition. Pakistan were finalists of 2007 edition and lifted the trophy in 2009 but haven't done much in World T20 tournaments since then.
In following, we present to you the list of T20 world cup winners over the years and then the overall win/loss summary of each team who've participated. Note that Super Over is played in case of a tie and New Zealand have lost the match twice while Pakistan have one such defeat. India, Sri Lanka and West Indies are only teams to win Super Over in World Twenty20.
