Final : Mumbai beat Chennai to claim maiden IPL crown.
Tag IPL-2013
Chennai Super Kings are easily the best team of IPL but now, they've twice messed up the final. Similar to the case last year when CSK failed to defend a solid total, today they surrendered to a moderate target set by Mumbai Indians who now have claimed their maiden IPL title..

Electing to bat, Mumbai were off to troubled start with both openers back to the dug-out by the first two overs and then captain Rohit Sharma returned before the powerplays were over. Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu reconstructed the inning, setting up some kind of platform for Kieron Pollard to launch an attack towards the end. Pollard oblidged, stroking three sixes in his knock including two off the last two balls to give Mumbai a target to defend.

Chennai were never in hunt once Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson reduced them to 4 for 35 which soon became 8 for 58. captain MS Dhoni tried his bit but it was always a losing battle.

Kieron Pollard was named man of the match while Shane Watson man of the tournament.

Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from IPL, becoming first player to quit IPL before saying goodbye to International cricket.
