Mohammad Yousuf holds record most test runs in a year. It took 11 matches and 19 innings to Sir Vivian Richards of West Indies to make 1710 runs on one calender year. way back in 1976..

30 years later, Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan, saying that he found his best form since changing his religion from Christianity to Islam, broke Richards's record with a mind blowing 1788 runs from same number of matches and equal innings. Yousuf made as many as 9 century in year 2006 which also the maximum by any batsman in one year (he was also out for a duck once).

Ricky Ponting of Australia has scored over 1500 runs in a year twice while Sachin Tendulkar's best test year has been 2002 in which he made 1392 runs from 16 tests.
