The record of most number of half centuries (fifties) in a test match belongs to a Frank-Worrell Trophy clash between Australia and West Indies at Adelaide Oval back in January 1969 when as many as 17 individual fifty plus scores were made. three batsmen = Gary Sobers, Doug Walters and Basil Butcher scored hundreds while Butcher (in first innings), Sobers (in second innings), Billy Lawry (both innings), Keith Stackpole (both innings), Ian Chappell (both innings), Paul Sheahan, Garth McKenzie, Joe Carew, Rohan Kanhai and David Holford made half centuries. It was a 8 ball per over test match and result, obviously, was draw. here's a list..

Most fifties in a test match
17 (14 fifty + 3 century) = Australia v West Indies, Adelaide, Jan 1969.
16 (10 fifty + 6 century) = South Africa v England, Durban, March 1939.
14 (9 fifty + 5 century) = England v Australia, Leeds, July 1948.
14 (13 fifty + 1 century) = Australia v England, Brisbane, Nov 1962.
13 (7 fifty + 6 century) = Australia v England, Adelaide, Jan 1921.
